As a Survivor of Domestic Violence in several relationships.. (including 2 marriages) I learned a lot through my own personal experiences as a "Battered wife" and woman not even being aware of "Battered wife syndrome" until I was in the Hospital Emergency room 7 days after my first marriage.. A policeman came in and asked if I "wanted to press charges." The nurse wrote on my chart "Battered wife syndrome" "domestic Violence.. battery. Wow.. I didn't know until I went to therapy and got my separation and divorce what domestic violence was. I didn't know about the subtle "grooming". "Wear this.. don't wear that." "They are not your friends." "go to my church, You should do this.. don't do that." The beginning of an unpleasant end.
I also experienced physical and emotional violence in my second marriage. I believe, in hindsight (which is always 20/20 ) that I grew up wanting to PLEASE.. and pacify everyone.. My Mother, my friends, my boyfriends.. strangers, everyone.. I still struggle but not so much. After years of enduring domestic violence I grew strong and I got my WINGS... I literally have them tattooed on my back as a reminder that I am FREE and strong and brave and worthy. I am blessed to be married to a man who loves me unconditionally and is my best friend and protects me. He is gentle and kind.. and strong.
Through the Tarot cards I found myself. There are certain cards that helped me get out of my cage.. and turn the page. I felt so trapped and afraid and weak and alone. Plus I was kept starved financially so I could NOT escape.
The Ten of Swords card helped me a lot, as did the 8 of Swords card, 3 of swords, 5 of swords.. The StrengthVIII card, the High PriestessII card's energy, The Star XVII, The Fool0 The Devil. The 9 of Swords..
I have been able to turn my former pain into power.. and for the past decades I have been able to help women leave their own abusers. It helps when a person has experienced domestic violence can talk to a woman who is currently experiencing it. I had people say "What did you do? to make him hit you?" "Stand by your man." "God HATES DIVORCE. No.. God HATES domestic violence. I was told that by Dr. Tom Freeman.. the minister who baptized me !
